The Artifact That Binds Three Heroes

The wizard, knight, and thief are bound together by a magical artifact called Trine. This binding drives their journey through a fairytale world of great castles and strange machinery. The artifact is the narrative anchor: it explains why three characters with separate toolkits share one adventure, and it frames the core loop of solving puzzles, overcoming obstacles, and battling the undead. Frozenbyte developed and published Trine Enchanted Edition, originally released in 2009 on Windows, macOS, and Linux. The artifact's binding makes switching between the three heroes a central action during play.

In the artifact's world, the heroes face castles and strange machinery while solving puzzles and battling the undead. The binding of the three characters shapes how a team moves through each level: puzzle solving and obstacle overcoming sit alongside combat with undead enemies. The game can be played solo or in one-to-three player online or local co-op. These documented goals and the shared artifact are the entire gameplay frame supported here; no specific controls, routes, or difficulty settings are described.

Three Heroes, Three Toolkits

Each of the three heroes meets the game's fully interactive physics differently, and switching freely at any time lets you pick whoever suits the challenge ahead. Amadeus the Wizard summons objects out of thin air, using conjured items to solve puzzles and open new routes. Zoya the Thief relies on agility and dead-on accuracy, surprising monsters and crossing the widest gaps with her grappling hook. Pontius the Knight brings mayhem and physical destruction wherever he goes. The puzzle design supports more than one solution, so the same obstacle can fall to a summoned object, a grappling line, or brute force.

How the three toolkits interact changes with the player count. Alone, you hold all three heroes and swap between them freely, so a single player can summon a wizard's object, fire a thief's grappling hook, and swing a knight's destructive force in the same stretch of level. With others, whether in online or local co-op for one to three players, each player takes a hero and you combine their skills to get through. The physics puzzles carry more than one solution, so the team's mix of abilities shapes which route opens.

Solo or Shared: One to Three Players

In solo play, you control all three heroes and switch freely at any time, allowing you to combine the wizard's summoned objects, the thief's grappling hook, and the knight's physical destruction within the same stretch of level. This open switching lets a single player counter the physics puzzles that accept more than one solution. The game also supports online or local co-op for one to three players, where each participant takes one hero and the team's mix determines how obstacles are overcome. The artifact's binding frames this central action of swapping between characters.

Alone you hold all three toolkits and rotate through them as needed. With others, each player commits to a single hero, and the group's combined abilities decide which route opens. The puzzle design explicitly supports multiple solutions, so a summoned object, a grappling line, or brute force can each resolve the same barrier. This shared play is available online or locally for one to three players. The game runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and as you progress you earn experience to upgrade your heroes' abilities while collecting items that help them.

Fifteen Levels and the Rebuilt World

Trine Enchanted Edition sends the bound trio through fifteen levels, each with its own distinct atmosphere and challenges. Named stops along the way include the Astral Academy, the Crystal Caverns, the Dragon Graveyard, the Forsaken Dungeons, Fangle Forest, and the Ruins of the Perished. The fairytale world mixes castles and strange machinery with these caverns and graveyards. While progressing, you earn experience that upgrades your heroes' abilities, and you collect items that give them a helping hand, so the level list and the growth systems run side by side across the campaign.

The Enchanted Edition rebuilds the 2009 original on the Trine 2 engine, adding new lighting and effects throughout the world of castles and strange machinery. Save-anywhere checkpointing accompanies that remake, and online co-op is part of the package as well. The original 2009 release is also included, and either version can be chosen. So this edition offers two ways to play the same fifteen levels: the rebuilt rendering on the newer engine, or the original release kept alongside it for comparison.
