Pencils, Elements, Tools and Weapons: The Core Drawing Mechanic

Draw a Stickman: EPIC builds its puzzle-solving around a single act: you create a stickman, then draw the things he needs to keep moving through an adventurous world. Using an assortment of pencils, players draw elements, tools, and weapons, and each drawing becomes part of the environment the character navigates. The pencils are the interface for producing these objects rather than a passive palette, so progress depends on choosing what to sketch for each puzzle and each obstacle standing in the way.

The documented examples show how the drawn objects work on the world. A rain cloud drawn with the pencils supplies water so plants can grow, while a drawn axe is used to chop down a gate. Tools fit puzzle situations and obstacles; weapons such as the axe act directly on scenery. Between the two, drawing covers both coaxing the environment into a useful state and clearing a physical barrier, and both actions are performed by sketching the element, tool, or weapon rather than by a separate command.

Rain Clouds and Axes: Drawing as Environmental Control

The rain cloud shows how a drawn element changes the state of the world rather than clearing a path. Sketching the cloud with the pencils produces water, and that water is what allows plants to grow. The plants then serve as part of the environment the stickman moves through, so the drawing solves a puzzle by turning a dormant patch of scenery into a usable one. In this case the player is not pushing or hitting anything; the act of drawing supplies the missing condition the plants need.

The axe handles the opposite kind of obstacle. Here the drawn object is a tool or weapon, and it is used to chop down a gate that blocks the route. The gate is scenery, but unlike the plants it must be removed rather than grown. Together the two documented cases divide drawing into environmental control: one sketch adds water so plants develop, and another sketch produces an axe so a barrier comes down. Both are performed with the assortment of pencils, drawing tools, weapons, or elements to solve the puzzle in front of the stickman.

Fourteen Levels, a Hidden Bonus and Branching Unlocks

The campaign spans 14 levels, with a hidden bonus level adding one more stage beyond the main count. Each level is built as an environment to explore, and the creatures the stickman meets are part of that adventure rather than separate from it. Drawing remains the means of getting through: the pencils produce the elements, tools, and weapons that address whatever puzzle or obstacle a level presents. The level total is a fixed structural detail, not something adjusted by settings or difficulty, because the documented material describes no such options.

The non-linear gameplay changes how the 14 levels connect. How the player overcomes one environment determines which level unlocks next, so the route through the game is not a single fixed sequence. This rule sits alongside the drawing mechanic: the rain cloud that grows plants and the axe that chops down a gate are distinct ways of overcoming an environment, and the method chosen feeds into the unlock rule. Because different solutions can lead to different next levels, the same 14 levels plus the hidden bonus level need not be reached in one order.

Secrets, Achievements and Steam-Only Extras

Within each of the 14 main levels and the hidden bonus level, hidden secrets and achievements are placed in the environment. These are found while drawing through levels rather than through a separate menu, so the pencils that produce elements, tools, and weapons also serve as the means by which a player explores and uncovers what a level conceals. The secrets and achievements sit alongside the non-linear rule in which the method used to overcome one environment determines the next unlocked level, giving a reason to return to environments already cleared and try a different drawn solution.

The Steam version carries its own extras beyond the base drawing and puzzle content. It lists improved visuals and audio, new hidden content exclusive to Steam, and more challenging puzzles. Its Steam-specific content includes 42 Steam Achievements, Steam Stats, Steam Cloud, and Steam Trading Cards. The achievement count and the hidden content are separate items: the 42 achievements are the Steam achievement set, while the new hidden content is described as exclusive to this version. These features are documented as Steam-version extras and are not part of the drawing rules that govern how a level is solved.
