Building a Captain Through Professions, Skills and Level Unlocks
Building a captain in Uncharted Waters Online involves taking on professions and training skills, with more than 75 professions and over 100 skills available. Adventurer, Soldier and Merchant establish the broad roles, while professions and skill training provide the more detailed parts of character development. The two systems give captain building separate components: the occupation a character takes on and the abilities they train.
Level progression adds another part to that development: every level unlocks new abilities and locations around the world. Raising a captain’s level therefore expands both what the character can do and where they can go, alongside the profession and skill systems. Captain customization also includes dozens of options for making a character distinctive, complementing the progression that opens further abilities and destinations.
Choosing and Customizing Ships for Exploration, Trade and Battle
Uncharted Waters Online offers more than 500 historical ships to command, with individual specialties and abilities distinguishing the vessels. The available roles include agile exploration ships, deep-hulled trading vessels and heavily armed warships. Choosing a ship therefore involves more than selecting its appearance: exploration, commerce and battle each have vessels suited to that purpose. At sea, players can fight naval battles or pursue piracy, alongside the options to captain an exploration vessel or command a trading fleet.
Ship selection is only one part of assembling a fleet. Each vessel also has its own extensive customization options, letting players work on individual ships rather than simply accept a fixed selection of historical designs. The game pairs those ship-specific options with the ability to captain something of the player's own creation. Its fleet-building system thus combines two elements: choosing among vessels with distinct specialties and abilities, and customizing the ships that make up the fleet.
Exploring the Globe as the World Clock Shapes Historical Events
Exploration in Uncharted Waters Online takes captains around the globe, into the map’s uncharted reaches and through a setting based on the Golden Age of Exploration. Discoveries include lost civilizations, historical artifacts and mystical legends, giving voyages subjects to investigate beyond the destinations themselves. The scope combines geography with history: sailing across the world is one part of exploration, while uncovering traces of past civilizations and encountering legends provides another. These discoveries sit within an open world shaped by player actions.
The World Clock adds a shared historical framework to that geographical exploration. Operating across the server, it controls historical events in which players can participate, with those events substantially changing the game world. Captains can also engage with global diplomacy, placing their voyages within a setting that includes international affairs as well as discoveries. The distinction is between exploring places and participating in events: the former takes players across the map, while the latter connects their activities to the server’s unfolding historical setting.
Trading and Working Together: Markets, Bazaars and Shared Voyages
Commerce in Uncharted Waters Online includes both exchange markets and trading directly with other captains. You can open your own bazaar, making a player-run outlet part of your trading activity rather than dealing only through the markets. Starting a company is another available commercial pursuit, alongside the aim of building a fortune. Markets, bazaars and companies give the trading side of the game several distinct activities: interacting with exchanges, running a bazaar and establishing a business.
Cooperation extends beyond exchanging goods: friends can form a fleet and sail together. Shared voyages support several kinds of activity, including exploring the world, completing quests and fighting enemies. Working together also includes combining the captains’ skills, so the group’s activities draw on individual abilities as well as its ships. A fleet is therefore a way to undertake quests and combat together, not merely a gathering of vessels travelling across the same stretch of sea.
